Principal's Message

Dear Thorndyke Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I hope you and your loved ones had a restful and enjoyable summer. I am honored to continue serving as your Principal and am excited to start another year of learning and growth with our amazing school community. My focus is to support every Thorndyke student and family, ensuring everyone feels welcome and included.

At Thorndyke Elementary, we believe in academic excellence while also caring for the social and emotional well-being of our students. We work hard to create a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all learners, respecting every culture, language, and background that makes our school so special.

A special welcome to our new families—whether you are joining us from another school in the district or moving here from another city, state, or country. We are so happy to have you as part of our Thorndyke community. We know that starting at a new school can feel overwhelming, but we are here to support you every step of the way.

Our teachers and staff are eager to meet their students and start this year’s learning journey. Over the summer, we have been preparing for the school year with professional development and updates to our classrooms and routines. Our goal is to make sure every student feels a sense of belonging and enjoys learning. We are also proud to work with community partners like the Boys and Girls Club and the Tukwila Community Center to offer before and after-school programs. You can learn more about these programs at our Open House/Ice Cream Social on August 29th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Our main focus at Thorndyke is to help students succeed in core academic subjects like reading, math, and writing. We do this by improving our teaching methods, using data to guide instruction, and providing extra support where needed. We also emphasize building a strong school community through restorative practices and social-emotional learning. Our goal is to help students become confident learners, good teammates, critical thinkers, and responsible members of the community.

I look forward to a successful school year with all of you. I believe in open communication and strong partnerships between home and school. We are here to support students, families, teachers, and the whole community. As we begin this journey together, let’s work hand-in-hand to ensure the best possible future for our students. Together, with compassion and commitment, we will make this a great year for every student.

If you have any questions or need support, please feel free to reach out. We are here to help.

Respectfully,
Michael Croyle
