Principal's Message
Dear Thorndyke Families,
It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as Michael Croyle, the Principal of Thorndyke Elementary School Community. The upcoming school year marks my 13th year working in education. During my educational career, I have worked as a Special Education Teacher, District Behavior Specialist and also as the District Summer School Coordinator. I completed my Principal Internship at Thorndyke Elementary in 2020 and have previously served on our District’s Race & Equity Committee and the District Discipline Committee. My experiences have provided me with the necessary tools to serve as an effective partner for your child's education.
My vision embraces high quality instruction, engaging students, creating a culture for learning and a warm welcoming environment. Thorndyke staff will accomplish this by being intentional in our everyday use of culturally responsive and equitable practices. Moreover, I share Thorndyke’s vision which embraces a welcoming, thriving school where students, families and staff are engaged in the learning process. During my internship at Thorndyke, I placed a strong emphasis on being a visible leader who builds positive relationships with students, families and staff through everyday interactions. My experience working with elementary schools helps me support teachers to improve their educational practices and increase student achievement. As Mary McLeod Bethune once said “We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends.” In my free time, I enjoy fitness, cooking, learning how to play the acoustic guitar, and spending time with family and friends. I am a big outdoor enthusiast who loves biking, camping, hiking and snowboarding.
Collectively, we will ensure the success of your students’ at Thorndyke Elementary School. My commitment and duty is to ensure your child is safe and provided every opportunity to be actively engaged in the learning process to the best of their abilities. Thorndyke staff will accomplish this by utilizing data as a driving force for instructional change in all academic areas. By fostering a love for learning among students and staff through collaboration and follow through, we will build a stronger school community. Equally important is the goal of creating an inclusive and collaborative environment for families through active listening, engaging and reflective dialogue.
I look forward to serving you in a rigor-filled school year by supporting students, families, teachers and our community. I strongly believe in transparency and open communication and fostering a collaborative home school connection. Please join us for our open house event on September 14th from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions or concerns. As we work together to take on new goals, we will create a partnership to accomplish our shared vision together. I look forward to meeting you all in the near future.
